Jams and Jellies
I've watched this man for 15 years. I know his face better than he does. I've never talked to him but friends have. I've watched his face and stubby, blunt hands as he handled apples and jars of jelly. I've painted him so many times. This is a memorial portrait, in a way, because he has died. He's my favorite Amish face. I think of the 17th century Dutch painters as I study him.
